Purging plug is generally a high-performance corundum spinel castable with a stainless steel shell outside. Purging plug is produced by vibration casting and molding, which is then fired under high temperature. There are several types of purging plugs, including porous plugs with a porous body inside, porous body with slots, porous body with segments, etc. Generally, slot plugs are more widely used.

The purging plug well blocks are of different shapes and sizes, with Al2O3 percentages ranging from 45 percent to 90 percent. Well block is produced via pressing or refractory casting, which is then fired under a temperature of 200-300 degree Celsius.
